For the United States and Canada, buyers should connect the exact board to an accepted code path and intended use. An ICC-ES or similar evaluation can cover wall sheathing, floor underlayment, structural floor or roof sheathing, interior substrate sheets or specific fire-tested assemblies—but the scope is product-specific.
Read four parts of every report
- Uses: what the panel is permitted to do.
- Conditions: framing, fasteners, exposure and design limits.
- Evidence: standards and test criteria actually evaluated.
- Identification: how the approved product and factory output are marked.
Avoid logo collecting
ASTM, NFPA, UL or CAN/ULC reports may address different properties. They do not automatically create a structural, exterior or complete fire-resistance approval. The quotation and product data sheet should point buyers to the document that covers the intended use.
