How to Specify MGO Wall Sheathing for Timber and Steel Frames

A useful wall-sheathing request starts with the wall assembly. State whether the board is structural or non-structural, interior or exterior, and attached to timber or cold-formed steel framing. Include the stud spacing, design loads and destination building code.

Define the interfaces

Exterior performance depends on the water-resistive barrier, cavity, flashings, cladding, coatings and penetrations. The RFQ should state whether the board is temporarily exposed during construction and how long that exposure may last. Do not describe a board as “waterproof” without defining the system around it.

Confirm the fastening schedule

Fastener type, corrosion protection, edge distance and spacing affect pull-through, racking and long-term durability. Structural or shear-wall use requires values from an evaluation that covers the exact board, thickness, framing and fastener schedule.

Evidence checklist

  • Intended-use evaluation or certificate
  • Structural, fire and durability reports relevant to the project
  • Installation manual and approved accessories
  • Board identification and factory quality-control documents
