MGO Board for Australia and New Zealand: Evidence Before Marketing Claims

Australia and New Zealand use performance-based building-code systems. A product claim should therefore identify the exact board and the conditions under which it is suitable. “Fireproof,” “waterproof” or “BAL board” is not enough.

Start with the scope of use

Define whether the board is an internal lining, tile substrate, external sheathing, soffit, floor panel, SIP facer or component of a fire- or bushfire-rated system. Then map the test reports and certification to that scope and its limitations.

Project information buyers may request

  • NCC or New Zealand Building Code evidence of suitability
  • CodeMark or other product certification where used
  • Fire, weather, structural, wet-area or durability evidence relevant to the system
  • Compatible coatings, membranes, fixings and joint details
  • Conditions for coastal, high-humidity or bushfire-prone locations

Only publish a BAL, structural or external-use claim when the tested construction and certificate cover that use.
